I know because that is what I bought.īuttom line: the always-online component is not a technical necessity, but a path to extract as much information and money out of the player-base as humanly (or inhumanely) possible. Coincidentally most if not all cars you list are part of the upsell called 'deluxe-edition'. Thankfully Codies are working hard to end such cheating. I mean, how awful would it be if someone used a trainer to instantly unlock Stratos, Escort Mk2, Sport Quattro S1 E2, Impreza 1995 and Fiesta OMSE, or used a trainer to get upgraded My Team starter cars, or used a trainer to get an extra one million credits, while legit players earn them by playing the game.

They also said something about cheaters using trainers to progress career, which is unfair against people who progress their careers legit. Of course that does not in any way explain why you can't play career (as opposed to online events) offline. Official reason is cheaters on leaderboards.
